BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED: 4% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Fantasy GMs have yet to catch up with New England's receiver Damiere Byrd. I can't blame them so much, though, as these Patriots offense--when it comes to the passing game--has sucked a bit in 2020 with Tom Brady out of town and replaced by Cam Newton. While veteran Julian Edelman and sophomore N'Keal Harry have racked up more fantasy points than Byrd, the latter is coming from behind and approaching those two in usage and performance as of late.
Byrd started the season slow, so slow in fact that he logged all of zero targets in Week 1 even playing 56 snaps. After that, though, his usage has seen the highest increase on a weekly basis among Patriots wideouts. Byrd's (26) almost caught up with Harry (30 targets) and is just 10 targets short of Edelman's (36) season tally. The snaps have remained steady through Week 6 (min. 55, max. 66) and that won't change as New England doesn't have any other receiver threatening their top-three players at the position.
In the four games in which he was actually used, Byrd has a couple of 13+ PPR performances to go with two 5+ PPR ones. He's caught at least 3 passes in every game, and his targets have bounded between 3 and 10. In those two matches in which he was targeted 5+ times, though, Byrd reached 72 and 80 yards, and on his 4 targets last weekend (3 receptions) he still put up 38 yards for a good 12.7 Y/R average.
Byrd is not a viable PPR-player as his volume is low, but he should be a good addition to anyone playing in a deeper league and needy at the WR position, with Byrd coming in as a good FLEX play on good matchups. San Francisco isn't the greatest one in W7, but after that New England is facing two bottom-half defenses against WRs in fantasy points allowed to the position. Oh, and the Pats are already past their bye week, which is a nice bonus.
